Artist Bio
Micki Brown was born in Medford, Massachusetts in 1969. She received her BFA from the University of Michigan, School of Art and Architecture in 1991. Brown was featured in the SD Voyager as one of their "Artists Who Inspire Us" picks in 2018. Her work has been exhibited throughout the San Diego area, most notably at the SDCCU Festival of Arts, Thumbprint Gallery, Hanalei Artworks, San Diego Art Institute and the Annual Juried Award Art Show at the Carlsbad/Oceanside Art League (COAL). In addition, Brown’s paintings have traveled to the Vanessa Lacy Gallery in Kansas City, the South Cobb Art Alliance in Georgia and Fallbrook Brandon Gallery. Brown is a member of the Oceanside Museum Art Alliance, International Watercolor Society (IWS) and the Carlsbad Oceanside Art League (COAL).​
Artist Statement
The majority of my work is comprised of intimate, abstract paintings often utilizing found paper and vintage prints serving as an emotional response to my experiences and their consequent surroundings. I use familiar architectural, geometric and linear shapes and forms to establish perspective and construct a recollected sense of place. The dissection of archways, fixed light cutting through walls, long shadows marking time, curves slicing forms into shards, fine lines fracturing or expanding shapes, all reflect the silhouettes and structures I see in this sentimental internal landscape. I am creating a perpetual pause on a singular moment of personal significance. (And sometimes, I am just painting for the delight of it!)
